50 Year Summary

I’ve had a good life since 1966. I lived in Edmonton for three years. Vancouver for three years and Kamloops, BC for the remaining years. I’ve been married to my wife penny for 39 years I had two sons. Andrew and Simon. My wife and I have traveled quite a bit and our favorite spot for vacations is Australia. Our hobbies are bicycling, downhill skiing, hiking, fishing and bridge. I have been a major volunteer for Scouts Canada or 30 years. I also worked in ski racing as a volunteer, with the highlights, being involved with the Canadian and North American Alpine championships 1998 -2001 as well as many other ski races over 20 years as a volunteer.

Penny and I have lived in the same house in Kamloops, for 40 years. I returned to Stanley for short periods of time at least 10 times, over the last 40 years. I’ve always been proud of my Maritime roots. My regrets include not having been a great student until I was an adult. I just didn’t get it, if you know what I mean.

Following school in Stanley. 1966 I went to work at Churchill Falls, Labrador, where I worked for a few months with the goal of moving out West. I left Churchill Falls at October and moved to Edmonton. I worked a few months for the city of Edmonton doing field surveys. I left there the following spring and work for the federal Department Harbors and Rivers for the work season of 1967. From there I went back to the City of Edmonton for two years. I then moved to CN Rail and worked on the new track construction project near Fox Creek Alberta. This is very interesting work but it was in the Bush. An opportunity came up in 1970 to move to Vancouver where I worked on the massive expansion project of the main yard in Vancouver. 1973 I moved to Kamloops BC where I worked as an engineering technologist, until 1984. 1984 had me move over to transportation engineering to look after the planning of track works, for the CN. I took early-retirement from CN Rail at age 50. From the time until my 63rd birthday, I was marketing manager for a company called Hytracker Manufacturing. This company produced and sold special mobilization equipment for using excavators working on a railway tracks. I found this to be a very good second career and enjoyed the new challenges.
